The festival city of Salzburg
Art, culture, and a whole bunch of fun
If you think of Salzburg, you probably think of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart or the famous Salzburg festivals. Yet, this city on the Salzach has much more to offer. You can reach Salzburg in around an hour from Kleinarl.
What you shouldn’t miss out on during a visit to Salzburg is a stroll through the world-famous Getreidegasse. The historical houses, the elaborate signs, and the variety of shops are a must-see.
The birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is also located here. On the original premises, you can now learn all about Mozart and theater, the everyday life of the child prodigy, and of the Mozart family. You can also admire historical instruments, such as Mozart’s childhood violin or portraits and letters.
Along with the Getreidegasse, the historical district of Salzburg is of course characterized by the fortress, the Residenz, and the cathedral. The almost 1,250 year old sacred building has a colorful history. This included not only beautiful events such as the baptism of W.A. Mozart, but also unfortunate times when parts of the cathedral were destroyed, yet always renovated and thus restored to their former glory.
